    Some books deal with serious issues ranging from grief to racial oppression to deprivation; others are simply a joy to read. The theme of this story is a poetry book about insects. The year I did this book with my students, they really loved reciting these poems. I would use this book with second graders, to help them get inspired to write in their own poetry. What that means, exactly, depends on the interpretation of the Newbery committee, which changes every year — thus, the widely varied nature of the winners, and the difficulty with predictions.

    You were a blessing in my life. And WE are so excited to have him back once again!! Charming large scale soft-pencil illustrations enhance the comical, easy-to-read text. My little sister insists that this would make a great game at parties or family game nights. They took and recited many of the poems in Joyful Noise.

    The poems are color-coded to make them easier for the four readers to keep track of their parts. There were things I discovered in the oral reading that I had completely missed in my own silent reading. I enjoyed this feature of the story because it is rare to find a poem that is written this way. Paul Fleischman has created not only a clear Joyful voices book fascinating guide to the insect world -- from chrysalid butterflies to whirligig beetles -- but an exultant celebration of life.

They will enjoy working together as they dramatically read aloud the poems. I rated the book with 4 stars because it was a delightful "Joyful Noise: Poems for Two Voices," is a Newbery Medal winning collection of poems written by Paul Fleischman.
